Job Summary: The Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing and managing the organization’s payroll, as well as assisting the finance department with various tasks. This position requires a thorough understanding of payroll procedures and regulations with a background in HR, excellent analytical skills, and strong attention to detail.
Basic Functions: The duties listed below are typical examples of the work performed by positions in this job classification, but not limited to:
- Process and manage bi-weekly payroll for all employees, in a timely manner
- Review and verify all payroll information entered in the system for accuracy
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations, and company policies
- Collaborate with Human Resources department to manage employee data related to payroll, including new hires, terminations, and changes in employment status
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll discrepancies or concerns promptly
- Perform regular audits of payroll data to ensure accuracy and compliance with internal policies and external regulations
- Assist in the implementation of new payroll systems or upgrades
- Assist with year-end payroll activities and reporting
- Stay up to date on payroll regulations and industry trends
- Complete other payroll related duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills:
- Strong knowledge of payroll regulations and compliance requirements
- Knowledge of HR compliance and regulations
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite and experience with payroll software systems
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Self-starter with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Intermediate accounting skills and knowledge
- Bilingual: English/Spanish required
Additional Information:
- Job Type: Part- Time
- FLSA: Hourly Non-Exempt Position
- Salary Range: $30.00 – $32.00 per hour
- Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 1:00 pm
- Benefits: 40 hours of paid sick leave as required by California law
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required, bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in payroll processing
- License/Certification: N/A
